A rating algorithm fix, but not totally fixed... Catching up from job hunting soaking up all my free time! Thanks for you patience!

This week (May 05)
I found a major bug in my rating algorithm this week, it was brought by my attention due to an edge case where a new player Michael Baker, won a lot of his initial games. We don’t normally get new players who are already very strong. So thanks Michael!
Unfortunately, there is still a bug somewhere, because it is marking his and Matt and James as “Established.” So I’ll have to root that out.
In the meantime, many of you will notice dramatically higher ratings. This is because I re-rated the entire back log of games with the bug fix and players throughout the club’s history stay provisional longer. There will probably be a further fix in the near future.
As the purpose of the rating system is primarily to estimate player’s relative strength as accurately as possible, and this fix pretty universally added points across the board, the pairings should be more or less the same as usual.
League
I’m a little behind on the league table, sorry about that. Here are the results for April! Matt has generously deferred his win once again, so this month’s free diamond membership goes to Elliot! Congrats Elliot. I’ll be giving you a QR code in person at the next meeting!
FAQ
How to read game notes - For when I get around to posting game reviews
The rating system - To explain what your rating shown above means and how it is calculated.
How to read tournament tables - For how to read tables of results, such as the one below!
Remember, you can join tournaments late, this does not hurt you in any way. It affects your tournament points, but not your rating. And tournament points only matter for that specific tournament, and are never heard from again! So, come late, leave early, don’t let schedule constraints keep you from playing the rounds that work for you. We want you to come and play regardless!
